The Adult Residential Services Division supports community living opportunities for people with autism and developmental disabilities who are over the age of 21. Community-based homes provide the opportunity for people to live independently and to become an integral part of their community, as neighbors, co-workers, and friends.

DDI homes are located in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, amidst the culturally rich and diverse neighborhoods of Long Island.

The Adult Residential Services Division recognizes that each person has unique and different living preferences and needs. Therefore, community living supports are designed to best accommodate the individual men and women who live in a particular home.

People living in community-based homes are supported by highly trained community integration specialists, most of who are degreed human service professionals, or college students who are preparing for careers. Leadership and supervision are provided by experienced masters and doctoral-level professionals with backgrounds in special education, administration, nursing and psychology. Together, these team members provide a network of resources aimed at providing individualized support and training in the following areas:

  • Communication and Choice
  • Self Help and Personal Hygiene
  • Personal Safety, Self-protection and Emergency Skills
  • Self-Advocacy
  • Coping Skills
